Title: 20 years of technological progress
Post by: the91fwy on May 01, 2022, 01:13:07 AM
i thought you all might enjoy seeing a comparison of 20 years.  fortunately the forum software works really well on legacy browsers and is functional on both machines!

on the left is a clamshell iBook from 2000 - it has a 466mhz powerpc and 320mb of ram.
on the right is a 2021 "notchbook" pro - with apple m1 max and 64 gb of ram.

oh my the bezels!!!

It follows the general rule of computers that the smaller one is the more powerful...

I got my first MacBook Pro as a Christmas present in 2010. I had to get new ones in 2016 (end of normal lifespan) and 2019 (water damage due to rain; backpack was not waterproof enough). I feel like there hasn't been a technological improvement from my first laptop to now.

Pfft.  The real comparison would be to the Zenith laptop I brought to college with me that ran Windows 3.1 and DOS 6.0...and I rarely ran Windows...
