Title: Building Const. at Harrah's in New Orleans: Will it Affect the Old FRWY Tunnel?
Post by: Brian556 on August 06, 2022, 10:40:38 PM
While looking at GSV, I noticed major building construction at Harrah's. I found an article stating that Cesar's bought Harrah's, and that they are building a new tower at the site. I am wondering how this project will affect the abandoned cancelled freeway tunnel under the property.

GSV showing the construction: https://www.google.com/maps/@29.949643,-90.0641446,3a,75y,264.66h,95.09t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sPlPFMiB7mbFL_ZX7i7esAA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 (https://www.google.com/maps/@29.949643,-90.0641446,3a,75y,264.66h,95.09t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sPlPFMiB7mbFL_ZX7i7esAA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192)

Caesars' bought Harrah's over a decade ago. That was well before the bankruptcy.  The change is they are going to rebrand the casino as Caesars to match the sportsbook and the branding on the Superdome. Same company, just a different level of (implied) service / flair.

As to how it will affect the never finished expressway is unknown. While the expressway has lots of aura surrounding it. It really just looks like an extended single level parking deck with fewer supports from the inside.

The answer is it depends on where they choose to build the new tower.

The new tower will be where Harrah's valet entrance was. You can see it under construction on Street View

I get that, the question is how this location actually situates to the subterranean location of the unfinished tunnel / underground parking lot.
