California State Route 55 is an eighteen-mile State Highway located within Orange County. California State Route 55 begins at California State Route 91 at Santa Ana Canyon and ends at the Newport Beach Channel Bridge immediately south of California State Route 1 at Newport Beach. California State Route 55 south from California State Route 91 to 19th Street in Costa Mesa is carried by the Costa Mesa Freeway. The remaining surface balance of California State Route 55 south to the Newport Beach Channel Bridge is aligned on Newport Boulevard.

Wow, mast arm attachments for traffic signals are older than I thought. (I was under the impressions the first ones were installed in the 1960's)
I am a little confused about the paragraph "Cut Slopes Stabilized" It mentions Restricted right of way in the vicinity of the Hoag Memorial Hospital and in the rear of business properties from Route 60 to 15th street Route 60 is located a long way from Hoag Hospital. Could they be talking about US 101A (CA-1), that just after the CA-55 entrance of the Hospital?

The "Route 60" being referenced is the pre-1964 Legislative Route Number. Legislative Route Number 60 is indeed pre-1964 US Route 101A.
