some photos from a trip I took nearly three years ago!
In the dead of winter I set out from San Jose, crossed the Rockies on US-93, and ended up covering 11 states... including a drive up Million Dollar Highway (US-550) across Red Mountain Pass in a whiteout blizzard. Oh wait, I can't call it whiteout because it was pitch black in the middle of the night! Nearly half as fun as that sounds ... here is the first set of photos from that trip! Covering Oregon and Idaho, to the foot of Lost Trails Pass on the way to Montana.

Interesting phenomenon- US-310 is signed as east west for its entire duration in Wyoming- I haven't been on it much in Montana, but I think that's the case there too. It's a very strict interpretation of the odd/even rules.

WYO 120 is signed east west in its entirely too, despite running eastbound 120 running northwest for a considerable amount of time.
I had to grab that classic green sign for the shield gallery. Dunno why the 789 is Series B (and has no cowboy, and a faded state name) but that narrow US-310 is excellent!
Great photos, especially the second batch! I really like the look of Montana's secondary route shields.

I saw the "WEST 310" sign in Laurel when I was there last summer; here's what it looked like then:

I was mystified by the sign as it was on the old alignment of US 10 and placed a block before 310's actual starting point. At that junction, no mention of 310 from westbound, just 212 and 90:

I had no idea that it was before the actual start. I just saw the junction, and then (from the other direction) saw the "310 to 90" gantry. Maybe that gantry got replaced between 2007 and last summer?

Kinda goofy that 310 is featured from EB, while 212 is featured from WB. Both routes should be mentioned from both directions.

I'm glad those painted US 10-12 shields were still there in Miles City. I suspect it's only a matter of time before some well-meaning worker paints over them.

He's referring to the 2nd-to-last photo; the caption mentions a powerplant in Wyoming but the picture is the "Spotted Ass Honey" building again. Probably just the wrong link.

That car most likely came from the factory with a 195 cubic inch "slant 4" engine that was basically 1/2 of a Pontiac 389. It also had the transmission in the back connected to the engine with a "rope drive" driveshaft. It was quite a unique car for its time.
