Title: Greetings from the land of potatoes
Post by: Taters on October 08, 2023, 09:34:19 PM
Hello all. Have been lurking and browsing this forum for some time now but never got around to creating an account. I've lived in Idaho for most of my life, (we have cool mountains and beautiful scenery here, shhh just keep pretending we only have potatoes here.) However, I was born just north of this state in Montana. Every road trip I went on would always occupy my time by looking at the signs on the side of the road (and of course overhead in more urban areas  :-P.) Glad to be here!

Happy to have some more Idaho representation on the forum!  And representation from the mountain west region in general.  Welcome from Chicagoland, which has plenty of representation on the forum (not to discourage more Chicagoland roadgeeks from joining, though)!

I have only been in the (narrow E-W) northern part of Idaho (flew into Spokane). I've driven on I-90 all the way across and about 20 miles into Montana, and I've been on US 95 between Couer d'Alene and Sandpoint. Took US 2 from Sandpoint back to Spokane. Very pretty up there.

I don't know what climate is needed for potatoes to grow, and I know Idaho is huge. My guess is I was too far north for that?

Welcome! I grew up just outside of Salt Lake City. Been through Pocatello many times.

Potato land is the Snake River Plain in the southern half of the state:

Plenty of potatoes are grown just to the west in Central Washington. The area around Othello in particular.

I've visited Idaho a lot, especially for the hot springs concentrated in the middle of the state. The multiple flavors of state route markers are interesting as well.

Good to have you on board.
