Title: U.S. Routes paved with materials other than asphalt or concrete
Post by: Joseph R P on December 31, 2023, 06:55:16 PM
What are some sections of U.S. Routes (including Business loops and Alternate routes and such) that are or fairly recently once were paved with other materials other than asphalt or concrete (cobblestone, brick, or even unpaved, excluding things like brick crosswalks or intersections of course)? This is the first time I have ever thought about this so I'm not sure if it's a one-off subject or not, but I noticed that US 340 ALT (Shenandoah and High Streets) through Harpers Ferry, West Virginia appears to be paved with cobblestone: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.3229225,-77.730247,3a,90y,271.15h,90.16t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1srnC_T6Js4W4NV5Dokup3Yg!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DrnC_T6Js4W4NV5Dokup3Yg%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D240.07224%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu

US 12 (Michigan Ave) in Detroit still has brick from Rosa Parks to 6th St.

That's concrete with a rough texture, not cobblestone.

SOLAR FREAKIN' ROADWAYS!!  :bigass: :bigass:

MO tried to test this within the Route 66 welcome center (technically a US route, right?), but the project was cut short due to funding.

The last was US-183 in Nebraska, which was paved in 1967.

the last gravel US route was a section of US-183 in Nebraska.  It was paved between 1967 and 1968.
