Title: State counting speed run
Post by: adwerkema on January 24, 2024, 01:49:15 PM
What's the shortest amount of time you can drive/walk to x amount of states?

x = 1 state: 0 minutes - you're already there.
x = 2 states: 0 minutes - stand on a border between two states.
x = 3 states: 0 minutes - stand on a tri-state border.
x = 4 states: 0 minutes - stand on the 4 corners monument.

x = 5 states: things finally get interesting. I think the answer is 1hr 9min (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Tri-State+Monument:+NM-OK-TX,+Dalhart,+TX/3+Points+Kansas,+Colorado,+Oklahoma,+County+Road+57+5%2F10,+Keyes,+OK/@36.7460453,-103.1741391,9z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x87056359c985efaf:0x2961eed6ac57a66c!2m2!1d-103.0024338!2d36.5003975!1m5!1m1!1s0x8708b510bc14d2e9:0xd700d4f7c3afd13!2m2!1d-102.0420895!2d36.9930157!3e0?entry=ttu) and you can touch the states of TX, OK, NM, CO, and KS. Is there any shorter time for 5 states?

What about x = 6, 7, or 8 states?

This older thread raises a similar issue, although it doesn't mention walking. (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=33368.msg2847063#msg2847063)

Yikes, I don't know how I missed that thread when searching for similar topics.
