Hi friends, Save The Date for the MD/PA/VA/WV Quad State (11th MDRoads Wedding Anniversary) Meet on August 17, 2024!
Lunch will be at 11 am at Buddylou's restaurant in Hancock, MD, followed by a mini vow renewal ceremony on the C&O Canal. Then we will hit the road and see the following:
-Sideling Hill Rest Area
-MD/PA Mason-Dixon Stone at Orleans Road https://apps.mht.maryland.gov/Medusa/PDF/Allegany/AL-I-B-064.pdf
-Scenic US 40 over Sideling Hill
-Hancock Toll House on the National Road
-Berkeley Springs WV US 522 new bypass
-Old bridges on WV County Route 13
-Farnham Colossi roadside Americana outdoor "museum" https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/farnham-colossi
Yay!!! (though this makes me regret not driving through Berkeley Springs back on 2/25/2024, I honestly felt that a drive in that direction was not worth it that day based on how little construction I could see in June 2023.)

Worth mentioning that (depending on the exact driving directions) this meet could well be the first ever to enter four states on the same day. There have been a few over the years that have entered three states in one day, even one back in 2012 that involved multiple countries, but the four state benchmark has not been reached, at least not yet.
Interesting, will definitely keep this on my radar since it is close to family in south central PA

Hahaha - in order to have enough time to visit 4 states, plenty of these sites will NOT be stops but just points of interest along the way. As of now, I plan for the Hancock Toll House to be one of those "take a picture as you drive by unless your car of people really wants to stop for 30 seconds and frame the shot".

Oooh, that's awesome that this will be the first Quad State Meet!
I think this meet might also be the first to have a vow renewal as well! Over the past 11 years, we've gotten to know so many more of you, and this community is family to us, so it feels appropriate to celebrate this milestone together with a roadmeet!
I anticipate the vow renewal itself to be short and sweet - no need for attendees to dress up unless they really want to!
I'll have more details as we continue to put the meet together.
Penciling it in; my only potential issues are budgetary. I've only been to two East Coast meets since 2016, so it's time to make up for lost ground.

My first gut reaction was that we certainly are saturating this part of the country with meets, with the recent Cumberland meet, the upcoming SW PA meet and now this meet...
...but whatever. It's just down the road from me. For right now, it's a maybe and will let you know when it becomes definite.

And I am planning a meet in the Harrisburg area in spring 2026 focusing on the I-83 construction that will be in high gear in both Harrisburg and York by then :nod:

If MD and PA are "all of the action," it makes me wonder about how one would classify the various much larger megaprojects around the rest of the country...something like going from Remo Williams to Monster Jam... :D

This sounds like a joke that's intended to be at my expense... whatever. LOL
While I was interested in going to this road meet, I have decided that my two-week California trip in July/August takes my number one priority over the MD road meet... Plus, by the time I get back from California, the football season will consume my whole family in getting involved!

well, I have now mentioned this to Steph and she seems to be interested, this could now co-inside with us loading totes\ boxes in the minivan as "phase 1" of our move back to the Harrisburg area so we would road trip to the road meet first then on to Harrisburg\ York to visit family and prepare for this move of ours. So I would say we are about 65% in for this and will know for sure as we get closer.
Unfortunately/fortunately, my family is now having a reunion that weekend (my siblings are flying out on one of their only open summer weekends). So, can't make it.

This should be an easy day trip for me, but it is the week before I have to go back to Penn State (classes start Monday, August 26th). Consider me interested, especially since I've called this area home for a while.

Sweet! Steph and I will be attending and just booked our lodging, looking forward to it! This will be my first activity after my retirement from the barrel :bigass:
A schedule conflict on that day will prevent my attendance for this, but I'm very confident this will be a great meet. Laura and I did a dry run of the itinerary last weekend and I think she's got a diverse and exciting variety of landmarks on the agenda that I think folks will really enjoy. And there's also the uniqueness of a drive that enters four different states on the same day, and a day that features a roadgeek vow renewal ceremony - what more could you want?? :cool:

This isn't your average swimming pool! The outdoor pool at Berkeley Springs State Park is filled with natural spring water. The pool is open to the public every day, except Tuesdays, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beginning August 20, the pool will be open on weekends only until Labor Day. The pool will be open for Labor Day. Pool entry is $6 for adults 12 and up, and $5 for seniors and children under 12. I don't plan to swim for $6, let alone with the hours restrictions.
I would love to attend this, but I've got plans that day.

IIRC, the US 522 Berkeley Springs Bypass construction is the main attraction of this meet.

I wanted to mention that the Unger Amusement Park to me was basically Krabbyland from SpongeBob except that Mr. Krabs was not scamming kids out of their money to go there. :D
