As of right now current status: Utility Relocation along US 80. Side note there will be a multi shared trail/path that will go under US 80 bridge and connect Westover Greenbelt northern Overlook and end next to Bio Life Plasma Services opening in March. This trail was originally intended to shorten the Gap with Mesquite Heritage Trail at Franklin Dr.
New Status Update!
According to TX Dot(Online Plans website) the Construction Project is ready to Let July 2024. I live nearby and I been looking forward to this project since is most of it is in Mesquite and it will include the addition of a Share Use Path/trail that goes under a bridge.
Bids were opened today (http://www.dot.state.tx.us/insdtdot/orgchart/cmd/cserve/bidtab/07103201.htm). Another budget buster. In addition to the complete interchange reconstruction, this also rebuilds and widens US 80 eastward 1.5 miles to Belt Line.

Besides the Mesquite project, I suggest to nickname that interchange, the Mesquite interchange.
The interchange from "True Stories" will be no more. It really hasn't changed much since the 80s.

New Status Update
Aerial Lidar scanning has begun all over the interchange and Concrete barriers have now been moved under the ramp of 635 NB to US 80 WB. The Concrete barriers will be used to controll traffic. There is no specific day which Austin Industries will officially break ground in January 2025? I live nearby so I will checking on it occasionally.
This project has officially started and now for 3 years of more highway construction in Mesquite Texas. The Only time that you will experience all of the highways that cross through Mesquite that are under construction at the same time. Meanwhile while we wait for some official information on this project let's check out this recent aerial's photos of the neighboring 635 East Project.

Thanks for posting that link. It has a huge collection of of high quality images. Work on LBJ East is proceeding quickly with traffic mostly on new concrete.
The original double-T pylon remains standing at the center of the interchange (photo (https://reginaldloftinphotographer.pixieset.com/plcjanuary2025lbjhwy635eastproject1stsetofaerialphotos/?pid=13716415835&id=381&h=MzMwNjI0MzQwNA)). I'm hoping to get some ground-level photos of it before it is demolished. It's difficult to photograph at this time, with the I-30 main lanes blocking the view. I'm thinking the I-30 main lanes will be demolished first, which will provide a window of opportunity. Hopefully I'll be able to catch it.
Something from this construction project that makes my brain stop working is why did they not consider writing I-635 from the interchange of I-635 and US 80 to Gross Rd. Like they wouldn't have spent that much money on widening I-635 since I-635 was widened between I-30 and US 80 in 2009 a little bit more than a decade ago but not that much. If they added just one more lane to both side would been fine for me. That now additional lane would perfectly go in par with the current 635 Eats project that is adding an additional lane. 5 general main lanes would been better instead of having 5 general main lanes for a short amount of time between I-30 and US 75.
