Posting this here in part because of the former station's past history being owned by the (infamous) Matty Moroun, and also because of the remarkable transformation from three decades of decay to a full-fledged modern mixed use complex:

Unless it's used as a train station, then what's the point?
It being a cool old building seems worthwhile enough. The station had actual money go into restoring it whereas something like the Packard Plant didn't.
Now there just needs to be a new Elkton station in Maryland
I'll be happy when CUS-YYZ Amtrak/Via trains are stopping there again.

The local media sure are making a big deal of it.
It's a big deal. It's pretty much the first building you see when crossing the Ambassador Bridge going into the USA. It had sat vacant since January 1988 and over the years the building which for a long time was owned by Matty Moroun who wasn't well liked in Detroit fell into ruins. Over the last six years it has been rebuilt. It looks nice and I'm happy to see it being used again, hopefully the surrounding Corktown neighborhood continues to thrive.

The old depot in my hometown was refurbished into a community center, rented out for special events. It is scheduled to be expanded and become a bus transit hub, but that's a secondary use.
