Title: Changes to the California Highway Website covering March – May 2024
Post by: cahwyguy on June 08, 2024, 12:50:56 PM
The updates to the California Highway pages covering March - May 2024 are live:

Blog Post: https://cahighways.org/wordpress/?p=16852
Direct Link to Change Page: https://www.cahighways.org/chg2024.html#2024-05

I'm a bit pissed at Facebook. I tried to share the blog post -- on my blog, on West Coast Roads. Both were rejected by FB's content filters, as they thought I was trying to promote likes. It was almost instance. They let all sorts of garbage through, but highway page updates are spam?

So, please, a favor: Please share the blog post or change page on California related road groups.

Weird, they never have done the same with me related to GN.  They had a maximum of ten shares per profile for awhile.

I got the exact same issue with New York State Roads.  It's especially bad because their review process doesn't even allow typing out a respond, instead shoving everything through a canned list of responses that aren't applicable to our situation.  I sent general feedback instead, including a mention that I'm deleting the page if it isn't resolved in my favor, as otherwise there's no point to having it.  I wouldn't be surprised if they come for the other roadgeek pages in time.

Facebook will let spambots request to be my friend constantly, but that's where they draw the line? Fuck that.

Facebook has a lot of weird algorithm quirks as of late.  Some of the groups that have activated the AI assist feature are having weird issues like.

More like Artificial Idiocy.

It isn't even that, calling it "AI" is a complete misnomer.  All of this stuff is pure algorithms and has no actual thinking behind it.  When K12 was on his high horse about how advanced "AI" is a weeks ago I got a good chuckle out of it.

I think I found a commonality between the two sites - both California Highways and New York State Roads have the state in the name, so maybe the algorithm thinks we're trying to impersonate the DOT?  I know I've gotten enough people's DOT-related inquiries over the years that I eventually had to pin a post saying that NYSRoads is just a hobby site and not the DOT.

And yet again they just removed a post made by California Highways to the California Highways Page, pointing to the May Headlines (which is California Highways relevant, on the webpage associated with the FB page). Their bots have really gotten worse, and are making FB a useless platform for links.

For reference: What seems to work better (at least so far) is to have text only as your main post, and to put the link in as the first comment. No rejects that way so far.
