I would like to propose that there are varying degrees of "fictional" related to road projects and planned projects. There are some DOTs with varying ability to fund certain projects within a certain time horizon, but that doesn't mean that the road system within their responsibility isn't worthy of consideration of upgrades, or worthy of discussion about novel funding opportunities.
It's also common for newer users of the forum to post observations regarding their local road system, and they are frequently encouraged to post items that aren't necessarily programmed road projects into the "Fictional" bucket of threads. It seems like it is treated as the "junk drawer" of the forum and could be further categorized based on the reasonableness or worthiness of items within. I fully get that those criteria are subjective, but I would posit that so would the inclusion of posts/threads in "Fictional" in general are as well.
What would be the pros and cons of the creation of another area in the forum, even if it is a subcategory under "Fictional" for logical or likely upgrades to the national road system or IHS?
"Logical" might be a stretch, but it's a good idea overall.
Epcot Center Drive is a logical I-904.

NE2 is our forum's Beetlejuice.
I like the idea in principle, but I suspect people have differing ideas of what ideas are "logical".

I got into a discussion with a non-roadgeek on Twitter who was advocating for an extension of I-26 up US 23 from Kingsport to Ashland.
That idea is totally illogical; as US 23 as it currently exists functions just fine with the exception of the Weber City/Gate City and Pikeville/Coal Run Village sections.
I fear that under this proposal, such goofy ideas like that would end up in that section instead of Fictional, where it belongs.
You know what would be logical? the North American Interstate Highway System, in all 15 North American countries, the countries will be, the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Terrtiories, Nunavut, Quebec, Greenland, Iceland, Alanland, Hawaii, Bermuda, Belize, and Saint Pierre and Miquelon, not central america, caribbean, or south america because i considered them other continents, and i would also like to have to have the interstate highway system in Europe and Australia, in Europe will have them in every country, like the UK, France or Spain, and in Australia will have them also in every country, like in Australia (Nation), or New Zealand, and this interstates can also be in Antarctica, and maybe South Africa, because in Antarctica theres only 1 or 2 countries, and about 5 or 6 Territories, and in South Africa because it looks like Europe, Australia, or North America, and those continents like North America, Europe, and Australia do look alike along with Antarctica and South Africa, theres my plan
FritzOwl would be posting in this section of the board because he thinks his extensions of the Interstate System are logical. So what exactly would go in Fictional if this board were created?

The line between "logical" and "feasible" is blurring together before our eyes.

ERROR 404 - Interstate beltway missing
I'd argue "fictional" and "logical" simply can't co-exist in stable state for very long on the Fictional Board. Even the best ideas (especially Interstate related) have devolved into the maximum state of entropy we call "I think this is needed."

You see logical ideas thrown out in the fictional section sometimes. Problem is, if they're too logical, there's not much to say other than "Nice idea" or "Why hasn't this actually been done?" So those threads tend to sink faster than off the wall shit like "What if the Las Vegas Strip was I-915" or "How would the transportation system of your county change if it were covered in expired provolone cheese".

There are times when all the world's asleep.
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned?
I know it sounds absurd—
Please tell me who I am.

Just sprinkle in some random sentences on grappling hooks and AI when the conversation gets stagnant. I don't know how to reverse course from that, but items like that get people talking.

You mean graphing hooks.
Mike never said how the hooks graph things, nor what the graph would be of or how it would be used to stop a runaway truck, but he always did know some things we didn't. (We mostly didn't know them because they weren't true.)

I know what you mean. Without naming names, several past and present forum posters have varying degrees of extreme "logic".
I did ask for an alternate history board a while back in order to separate topics that are being brought up in today's context from discussions about how traffic patterns and development would have been impacted if history had gone a little differently. But nowadays, I think a rule actually needs to be written about derailing topics just because a user doesn't personally like them or perceives them as a waste of time. If you don't like a topic, just don't post in it instead of publicly complaining about it.

That is literally the post that started Alanland, so you aren't really wrong.
