Title: What's Your Perfect Weather?
Post by: JayhawkCO on August 29, 2024, 04:06:10 PM
I know all of us have something different we like. I found a website called myperfectweather.com where you can adjust your settings for high temperatures you would prefer as well as humidity. Thought it might be fun to post our ideal maps.

Essentially what you get in Monterey, California.  Most of the year temperatures range from 50F to 70F.  There isn't a lot of sun, plenty of shade via coastal fog and just enough rain to make things interesting.

Yes, coastal California is severely underrated on JayhawkCO's map because of the humidity, which is not the miserable sweltering kind but rather comes along with the coastal stratus that keeps the temperature from getting hot.

I live in one of the counties that's yellow on that map and I do mostly like the weather here, but those winters where we get snowfall that's well above average, man that does become pretty burdensome.

I like variety, but not extremes. My perfect weather would be:

December 15-February 28: High 30, Low 20
March 1-May 15: High 65, Low 50
May 16-July 15: High 75, Low 60
July 16-August 15: High 85, Low 65
August 16-September 15: High 75, Low 60
September 16-December 14: High 65, Low 50

Moderately low humidity as much as possible.

If I bump up the dew point:

I fiddled with the numbers until I got my desired result.  Low-enough temperatures with higher humidity produces:

Edit:  Not to say that coastal California is the only place with good weather in the entire country and everybody else's weather sucks, but it shows that high humidity by itself isn't a deal-killer if it's not accompanied by high temperature, and coastal California is unique in the USA for having this specific combination which most people seem to agree is "pretty nice".  It's certainly a major factor in explaining some housing prices.  Also, as to the county that's in red there:

How do you use the site?  I can't seem to figure out how to change the temperatures; whether it changes one or both ends of the range at once seems to be random, and there's no way to "lock" the setting once I've reached my desired temperature, so it just keeps changing every time I move the mouse.  Also, trying to get the number of comfortable days just shows the spinning circle with no result generated.  Am I doing something wrong?

Before clicking the filter button on the left, click the Comfortable Weather option. Seems to get rid of the hiccups.

Right, so more cloudy and rainy days tops greater humidity?

Call me crazy, but it's a push: I'm either sweating in the open or under a rain jacket.

For me, yeah. I don't mind rain. I hate mugginess. Whenever I fly back to KC in the summer or god forbid visit my parents in Florida, the second I step off the plane, I'm taken aback.

Since I grew up in a convergence of semi-tropical, tropical savana, and semi-arid climates that is South Texas, my ideal weather is our average April & October conditions -- around 90 degrees high and around 70 degrees low, moderate-to-slightly less humidity (dew points upper 60s to near 70 degrees), and quite breezy (20 MPH).

I think it's funny how when you set all the sliders to the max, the only places that have days that are not considered comfortable are coastal portions of Texas, Louisiana, and Florida.

Which are obviously my least attractive climate zones.

My perfect weather would be

Winter: December-February: temperature between 25-45. No snow or light snow.
Sprint: March-may: 60-70. Overcast and rainy at least 40%
Summer june-august: ideally no higher than 80 or 85 degrees. I hate summer and I hate heat
Fall September-November 40-70. Overcast often.

My perfect weather is Basically cold to mild, with significant amounts of cloudy overcast days and a good bit of rain in the spring. No blizzards or heavy snowfall. Is there anywhere like this? Because I'll move there

I don't want to jinx it, but this is about as close to perfect weather as you're going to get in upstate NY. Considering that May and October can sometimes get freezing temps and June is prone to heat waves, September is probably the most consistent "perfect weather" month around here.(https://imgur.com/s9UgnEC.jpg)
