Title: Janesville, Iowa Avenue of Saints Interchange
Post by: splashflash on October 26, 2024, 10:10:10 PM
Thanks to Iowa Highway End for posting thus excellent summary of the interchange and frontage road work occurring on US 218.

The completion of this IDOT construction work will extend the freeway north from Janesville to the Waverley freeway bypass.  The Avenue of Saints is slowly being upgraded to a freeway.  Another interchange opened a year ago further north on the stretch just west of Floyd.

It would be nice for the Avenue of Saints to become I-53.  The number 53 was used for Herbie, an old Walt Disney children's movie.

Still a large number of rural, ground level crossings that would need to be closed before reaching any I number. Do you know the number it is at right now between Mason City and Waterloo?

I counted 37, not including driveways, north of Waverly. And I'm not aware of any further plans to remove intersections along that stretch.
