Title: RIP - Steve Sobol
Post by: Hot Rod Hootenanny on January 22, 2025, 10:37:17 PM
Cleveland native and California Roadgeek Steve Sobol passed away over the weekend.
I think Steve goes back to the MTR days (after 28 years, I incorrectly assume 90% of us started on usenet), and certainly along Facebook & Instagram.
Steve was only 55, and passed away in his sleep (evidently one of his brothers had passed on 10 months prior due to heart issues)
His family has set up a GoFundme site to help with funeral expenses.

What a sad way to go out. My prayers are with his family.

I remember him from Usenet in the late '90s.

Has anyone found out more about what happened?  I know he passed away in his sleep and it was out of nowhere.  I talked to him quite a bit off forum, definitely wasn't anything like this.

He did go back to the MTR days. I never got to meet him. I knew he was in California but didn't realize that he was a native Clevelander.

I can't think of a better way to go than to just go to sleep and never wake up. It seems so peaceful. It just goes to show that you never know when the appointed hour will come, and you need to be ready.

My condolences to his family and friends.

This is a huge loss for our community. I recall seeing him on MTR and he made the jump over to the various Facebook groups, and his input was always very interesting.

Gee, I feel like he was commenting just on the roadgeeks' Facebook pages just last week.

My condolences to his family.
