Title: Rest area mile marker signs, and other signs exclusively at rest areas
Post by: D-Dey65 on February 10, 2025, 07:48:01 AM
What is the MUTCD code for Rest Area Mile Marker signs?

Because I haven't been able to find any information on them.

There might not be one.  Signage is a little more flexible once you're off the highway.  Just look at NY moving all the Cuomo Signs (https://www.google.com/maps/@43.2730971,-73.6745936,3a,29.9y,39.47h,89.57t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s1sq7kYhx9tbrl_qfbUT7Tg!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D0.43442745576605546%26panoid%3D1sq7kYhx9tbrl_qfbUT7Tg%26yaw%3D39.47285328465327!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDIwNS4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) that it couldn't fold into the "experimental tourist sign pilot program" to the rest areas.

West Virginia uses an all-text sign like this: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jS6Qk6spdp7fLqVf8

Ohio's ODOT has two rest area identification signs, which are often posted near the entrance. Both show the rest area identifier. The D5-H29 shows the location of the rest area in miles since the county line, but that's not really obvious to the general public.

D5-H30: https://www.dot.state.oh.us/roadway/sdmm/SDMMSignFiles/D5-H30.pdf

There is no national MUTCD sign code for this. This is not a standard sign application.

While not technically in use anymore, the 2003 MUTCD RA-040 sign for an elevator could have had use at a few locations, such as at a few service plazas on the NYS thruway or that one rest area on I-90 in SD.
