Title: wide ROW at 18½ Mile Rd at Warren, MI
Post by: Stephane Dumas on September 29, 2010, 09:24:42 PM
I spotted on Google maps what it seem to be a ROW at 18½ Mile Road at Warren, Michigan west of MI-53, I wondered if it could had been for the path of the proposed Van Dyke Freeway/MI-53?

Sure. The plan was to connect it up to Mound somehow, and that would have been the best location to do it.

Which, of course, is the reason for all the ramps at Mound and I-696.

However, knowing this area like the back of my hand, this is almost impossible now.

Another neat freeway-to-ghost freeway interchange in Metro Detroit is at I-96 and the western terminus of M-8/Davison Street. A freeway stub exists at the eastern end of the M-8 freeway, I think that freeway would continue further east and have an exit at Conant Street, but the residents of the communites that Mound Road runs through didn't want another freeway, the connection between the freeway and the street is a pair of upgraded ramps for that would-be interchange. In fact, the M-8 and M-53 freeways were supposed to conenct to each other, the wide ROW at 18 1/2 Road might be where that freeway would swing over from Van Dyke to Mound.

I always wonder what this would look like... Let's get this going on the Fictional Freeways section.
