Title: NY 55 & 22 Trumpet Interchange
Post by: Mergingtraffic on October 02, 2010, 05:46:06 PM
At the NY 55 & 22 interchange in Pawling, NY 22 becomes a 4-lane divided highway up to expressway standards and it's interchange with NY 55 is a trumpet.

Were there grander plans for NY 22 or NY 55 in this area?

Also, didn't a new conenctor open on I-84 in NY State around Exits 3 or 4 for the airport?

I'm guessing you're referring to the relatively new Exit 5A (between 5 and 6), at NY 747, providing access to Stewart Airport.  NY 747 runs between NY 17K and NY 207.

That trumpet is the result of NY55 being moved to bypass Pawling. Seems to not be much more to it than that.

Then again, had I-87 remained on what's now 684, it's possible that it would have been extended north through the area.
