Title: Inactive moderators
Post by: TempoNick on May 07, 2025, 08:39:09 AM
I clicked on a couple of moderator names just for fun and it looks like some of them aren't around anymore. The southeast moderator last checked in, in 2021.

I'm not sure why regional moderators were even necessary.  Pretty much any of them can be pinged and/or act on any board.   Then again the amount of people (not counting bots) who used this forum was probably way higher in 2009.

Quote from: hotdogPi on February 04, 2023, 04:26:39 PMI had thought this forum has gotten slightly busier over time. In fact, the exact opposite is true.

Thread numbers.

3: 1/15/09
5000: 7/24/11
10000: 7/27/13 (and the best of the bunch)
15000: 3/11/15
20001: 4/11/17
25000: 5/13/19
30000: 8/17/21
35000: 9/9/24
40000 extrapolated from 30000 and 35000: 10/03/2027

We've definitely been slowing down, even before the change slightly over a year ago preventing automatic new registrations.

I initially included "40000 extrapolated from 35000 and this thread (36192): 6/13/2027", which would indicate a very recent speedup, but that's probably bad data influenced by the 120 or so spam threads by the same user in the Registration Problems board.

Inactive moderators aren't really an issue. They can't abuse the forum unless their account gets hijacked.

It started with usenet and misc.transport.road, which begat message boards and this forum, which begat Reddit.

No wonder Reddit's so screwed up.
