Title: [Project] Highways Sorted by each U.S. County
Post by: TBKS1 on July 15, 2025, 01:19:16 AM
I don't know exactly where the best place to post this thread would be, this can be moved elsewhere if needed.

I initially started working on this project over the pandemic, mainly to create a listing of all the highways in my home state of Arkansas, and sorting them by the counties in which these routes were located. After that, I started working on making lists for adjacent states as well, such as Missouri, and Oklahoma, and kept expanding the project further and further. I gathered a bunch of documents from different state transportation agencies and departments to help me out (thank you KYTC and TXDOT!) and kept working on the project off and on until the end of 2024 when I finally finished the last state in the sheet (which was Ohio). I've since had to reform this quite a bit, lots of routes have since been turned back, some new ones added here and there as well.

Personally I don't really know what I would do with this sheet now that I've otherwise finished it, maybe I could transfer some stuff on it to the wiki later, but I mostly wanted to create this thread not just to showcase it, but also get some peer review for this project as well. There may be some additional routes that I may need to add or remove to keep the list accurate. Definitely let me know if there's anything I missed in this sheet.

A little side note, only signed highways are included. Let me know if this link doesn't work.

Interesting. No 2xx state routes in former Fairfield County, CT; and only one 3xx.

Thanks for sharing! I have considered making an attempt to track TM mileage by county, and this would absolutely be a valuable resource if I ever follow through on that plan.

Oh yeah... I made that list back before Connecticut replaced their administrative boundaries. Probably not gonna change it because I'm lazy.

Very Cool! Louisiana must have been tough. Especially with many that have fully or partially rolled back to local jurisdictions.

I was going to say I saw some missing for LA, like some signed Spur state routes. Are you not including any bannered routes? (Business, Alt, Spurs)

I'd be happy to look over the Louisiana section. You've caught a lot that have only recently become signed

My avatar's feelings are a bit hurt, because you don't include it in Douglas County in Nevada.

Nevada DOT has a full index of its highway inventory here:  2025 NDOT Description Index (https://www.dot.nv.gov/doing-business/about-ndot/ndot-divisions/planning/roadway-systems/state-maintained-highways-descriptions-index-maps).  So that would be a good cross-check.

In Carson City, SR 512 and SR 518 were relinquished to Carson City several years ago.  SR 529 is unsigned (it's a part of US 395 Business).  Also in Douglas County, SR 705 doesn't have any shields but it's marked by a couple of the small paddle-style mileposts, as shown here, so I don't know whether you consider that "signed" or not:

Great work, TBKS1.

First, ask the admins to pin this thread.

Next, there is a typo in the TX section.  It's *Gillespìe County, not "Gillepsie County".

A couple updates, I shared this with some friends of mine and had a complete overhaul of New Jersey and had to remake that list. Thank you Alps for helping me!

Added NV 207 at the very least and removed 512, 518, and 529. I'll review this list later.

I didn't include any bannered routes for Louisiana, I did include them for a couple of other states (usually suffixed routes that are usually alternates or spurs of the main route). I recently had to update Louisiana as I missed a few split routes and a few of them have recently been turned back as well.

IMO this doesn't deserve to be pinned, I know I put a lot of work into this but I do want to see what other people think first. Also fixed that spelling error.

Nice job. A couple edits. CO233 in Pueblo County no longer exists. Even when it did exist, it wasn't signed. CO227 exists in Pueblo County but isn't signed.

Wow, that is an impressive accomplishment! Kudos!

Glancing through the Oregon tab, here are some errata:

- You left off OR 542 in Coos County, it's now a signed route.
- Ditto OR 370 in Crook & Deschutes Counties, I saw it was now signed a couple months ago
- AFAIK, OR 227 is still signed in Jackson County, just not in Douglas.
- You correctly include US 20 entering Jefferson County up by Santiam Pass, but that road also carries OR 126, so it should also be included in Jefferson Co.
- OR 58 shouldn't be listed in Lake County, but it should be in Lane. Typo?
- OR 153 should be included in Yamhill County, it's been signed for a couple years now.

That's all I saw, everything else looked good. I was impressed you included US 26 in Columbia County & I-205 in Washington, as those would have been easy to miss!
