Post by: thenetwork on October 10, 2025, 03:28:02 PM
This is an article which discusses a "wish list" of plans for funding of new infrastructure around what will likely be the future Cleveland Browns football stadium, which is to be built next-door to a new Cleveland Hopkins Airport terminal complex.

This shall affect the current I-71/Snow Road/Engle Road interchange area.

The owners of the Browns and the city of Brook Park are looking for morr state and federal funding for this project with the hope of completion by 2030.  We shall see...

Are there any other stadiums or arenas that were built next to an airport?

SoFi? 2.4 miles from nearest LAX runway

Daytona International Superspeedway and Daytona Beach International Airport are neighboring properties

Rosemont Horizon/Allstate Arena is across I-90 from ORD, and within a half-mile of 2 runways

Citi Field is very close to LaGuardia

The new Las Vegas Athletics stadium will be very close/adjacent to LAS

The old Cleveland (Browns) Stadium was built in the early 1930s and was torn down around 1995.

During that time, the City of Cleveland built Burke Lakefront Airport in the 50s or 60s, which services smaller & private planes, within a mile of the old stadium.

The current Browns stadium (Huntington Bank Stadium) was built on the site of the old Cleveland Stadium in 1999.

So, to your question, In Cleveland, a stadium was built next to an airport, which was built next to a stadium!

PayPal Park (formerly Avaya Stadium), home to the San Jose Earthquakes MLS club, is across the street from San Jose Mineta Int'l Airport (SJC).  And there's an In-N-Out burger location next to that stadium that's a must stop if you've just flown into SJC and you're hungry for something other than overpriced airport food.

Before it was removed, Meigs Field was very close to Soldier Field on the Lake Michigan Chicago Lakefront - separated by a Marina and the former NB Lake Shore Drive/US 41 lanes

LSD now has both directions on the west side of the stadium and of course Mayor Richard M Daley got Meigs Field closed and it is now a park and beach
