Title: Looking for an old photo if I-75 over the Suwannee River.
Post by: thenetwork on October 19, 2010, 09:36:16 PM
Back in the early 70's, there used to be a BGS on I-75 at the Suwannee River bridge that had the musical bars & notes.  When I had passed through there in 1990, it was changed to just a simple sign, mainly because the song wasn't as familiar to the younger crowds.

Does anybody know where I can find an old photo of the original "musical" sign or does anybody know how long that was in existence?

Thanx!

was it an overhead BGS or one by the side of the road?  I know that there was a sign on I-10 each direction until fairly recently, by the side of the road, and for all I know it is still there.  But the photos I would have of it would be an 2000s issue retroreflective sign, not one that potentially would have button copy musical notes

*insert ninja wailing on a guitar in a totally sweet manner here*

Cannot recall if any of those signs with musical notes for the Suwannee are still kicking in Florida.

Photographed a similar type sign for the Hank Williams Memorial Lost Highway along Interstate 65 years ago though.

Three years ago, they did have the musical notes on both the I-75 and I-10 Suwannee River signs.  AFAIK, the I-75 signs have been around since at least 2003 (the earliest I clearly remember making the drive to FL on I-75).

It's the one on US 41, not I-75, but it's got the music:

Black on white guide sign for approaching the Historic Suwannee River on US 41 South; White Springs.  This sign would be found at all Suwannee River crossings.  Photo taken by Michael Summa; 1983.

Edit: And here's what appears to be a version from 2008:

The signs still have music notes, both on I-75 and I-10:

I was down that way a few weeks ago and it's still there! No the original I imagine, but FL at least chose to keep it though the upgrades over the years. Kinda cool!

There are two of those signs and last time I recall, both are still standing.
