I like those signs under the bridge, so unique!

Well rare anyway.

Here's two pictures courtesy of AARoads of signs on the lower level (I-71/75 North) of the Brent Spence Bridge between Kentucky and Ohio.

Out of curiosity, where's the pic in your second post from?  (The one with the two I-5 North panels)

I've been up and down most of I-5 in Washington, but I can't imagine where it would be.

I-405 North in Portland.  It's the lower deck of the Freemont Bridge.

That ramp setup is almost ideantical to I-279 SB on the Fort Duquesne Bridge.  Well, the ramp setup.

I-405 North in Portland.  It's the lower deck of the Freemont Bridge.

I had a feeling that the answer to the question of why I didn't recognize it was because it's not in Washington.  Once I posted it, I figured it was either 405 or 84.  Thanks. :)

Another fun one from I-405, especially since it's only exclusively 30 on the ramp- really surprised they didn't use that space to say I-5 SOUTH or TO I-84

Wonder why they didn't push the whole thing to the right so they didn't have to have "The" on its own little panhandle thing there...

The lower deck of the Fort Pitt Bridge has rectangular signage similar to what Ian posted from Boston.  Instead of trying to squeeze both route and destination on one, they are spaced between two signs:  first set (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Pittsburgh,+PA&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=32.38984,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Pittsburgh,+Allegheny,+Pennsylvania&ll=40.439321,-80.010539&spn=0.000957,0.002411&z=19&layer=c&cbll=40.439377,-80.010438&panoid=dmgcyy-CbSy0ifCy8Axteg&cbp=12,237.95,,0,6.5) then second set (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Pittsburgh,+PA&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=32.38984,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Pittsburgh,+Allegheny,+Pennsylvania&ll=40.43937,-80.010453&spn=0.000957,0.002411&z=19&layer=c&cbll=40.4392,-80.010761&panoid=7YvI8MX5V64n6mSs1Ftz4w&cbp=12,238.55,,0,0.9) and even auxiliary signage (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Pittsburgh,+PA&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=32.38984,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Pittsburgh,+Allegheny,+Pennsylvania&ll=40.438974,-80.011172&spn=0.000957,0.002411&z=19&layer=c&cbll=40.439024,-80.011082&panoid=TVZmZRAEnKZUTqDaufdbbg&cbp=12,239.15,,0,5.7).

I think this is gorgeous. Beefed-up supports, boxy-shape, almost art deco. It's prudent, economical, and almost perfect. I think.

You can thank the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake for those beefy columns and supports as that was the end result of retrofitting the double-deck portion of I-280 north of US 101.  After the collapse of the I-880 Cypress Structure in Oakland, all of the double-decked freeways in San Francisco were either torn down (US 101/Central Freeway and CA-480/Embarcadero Freeway), retrofitted (I-280) or replaced (I-80, Bay Bridge west approach).
