Title: US-40 US-42 interchange

Just driven along this today and noticed the loops have been removed. I know they were tight but now these movements are accomplished via left turns in the median.

Google Maps  (http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.938369,-83.397796&spn=0.008506,0.029225&t=k&z=16) still shows the old view.

Yeah, this interchange hasn't really been necessary since I-70 opened.  Though US 40 is divided and US 42 is only two lanes, US 42 is easily the busier road. The real problem with those loop ramps was the stop signs at the top.  Then again, I'm not sure how easy it is to enter US 42 at the ends of the other "ramps", and I can't remember if those have stop signs too...

Luckily I got to drive this before they removed them.

It's a shame, but as mentioned with I-70 in place, US40 is greatly undertraveled and US42 is easily the more important roadway of the interchange.

I'm just glad they've kept the interchange. Wonder what will happen if/when the bridge needs upkeep. Will they fix it, or take it down and form a simple intersection with right turn free-flowing ramps.

They just replaced that bridge.  I think the removal of the loop ramps was kind of an afterthought, like: "hey while we're out here, we might as well get rid of these unnecessary and unsafe loop ramps."  Now that I think about it, removing those ramps (or one of them anyway) makes it easier to eventually build a second bridge and 4-lane US 42.  I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon, but now it would be a little more feasible.
