Title: It's Geography Awareness Week
Post by: Hot Rod Hootenanny on November 16, 2010, 08:42:51 PM
Are you aware of Geography?  :poke:
More like an excuse to talk about maps with the general public...for a couple of days.  :pan:

Heck yes! Here in Wyoming, we've got some guest speakers from Colorado State and U or Oregon coming in to talk, then a geography bowl tonight (a very casual one held just outside the bar in the student union where everybody basically gets wasted and answers geography questions- a high school team actually won last year simply because they couldn't get into the bar between rounds), then another geographer-only party on Friday. We've got the world's largest map of Asia coming in tomorrow for display, and then we're pretty heavily advertising all of that via flyers and things, so it's a good time.

Best week of the year.

This is a good occasion to point out one of my favorite blogs--Strange Maps:
