From the May 22, 1935 Lawrence Journal-World, the article announced that the bids would be received by the State Highway Commission on a project to complete paving of then-gravel K-10 from Haskell Avenue in Lawrence east toward Eudora. The highway from Eudora east to DeSoto was being paved.

Interesting notes

* The section was to follow a new "model" highway: 20 foot roadway on a 120-foot right-of way.

* The article suggested that K-10 and US 40 west of Lawrence would be switched. K-10 would be shifted on US 40's route, but US 40 was never moved, as the road was instead designated as US 24. The proposal was touted as "congestion relief." The article refers to US 59, so the US 73 split had already been eliminated, but the US 40 split had not.
