Title: Arctic Bay-Nanisivik road to be 'reclassified'
Post by: Kniwt on February 08, 2011, 07:18:09 PM
The Government of Nunavut has announced (http://www.gov.nu.ca/news/2011/february/feb7.pdf) (PDF) that the 27km gravel road connecting Arctic Bay and Nanisivik in Nunavut will be "reclassified as a Community Access Road" after a new regional airport in Arctic Bay opened to replace the old facility in Nanisivik.

QuoteThe Government of Nunavut will save about $575 thousand annually by no longer having to maintain Nanisivik airport and the road between Nanisivik and the Hamlet of Arctic Bay.

This is/was the only all-weather road connecting two communities in Nunavut, and apparently the longest ... for now, at least.
