Title: Interstate Interchange Question
Post by: Grzrd on February 11, 2011, 09:38:36 PM
While posting on "Interstate 22" thread on "Southeast" page, a question came to mind.

The question came to mind when I made the following mental assumptions about possible future interstate developments:
- assume I-22 is continued up Lamar Corridor and then duplexed westward with I-240;
- assume US 67 will be completed to interstate standard from Little Rock to Walnut Ridge;
- assume US 63/I-555 will be completed to interstate standard to Jonesboro & then to an intersection with interstate-standard US 67 near Walnut Ridge;
- with creation of US 67/63 interstate-grade interchange, US 67 could be signed as an extension of I-30 and I-22 could be extended along I-55, and US 63/I-555 to the interchange.

Once the above would happen, you would have the following interchange in Memphis: north I-69/240; east I-22/240; south I-55/69; and west I-22/55.  This interchange would be composed of four duplexes that have four different combinations of interstates.

My question: are there any currently existing interstate interchanges composed of four duplexes with four different combinations of interstates?

No.
The Memphis interchange currently has 2 duplexes with 2 different combinations: north, I-69/240 and south I-55/69.  Do any interchanges currently have 3 duplexes with 3 different combinations?

I guess that'll be good for the sign-bridge business.

Not a current one, but Nashville TN used to have I-40/65, I-40/24, and I-24/65 on the southeast side of downtown.

Other occurrences of the two duplexes, two combinations:

* At the NE quadrant of the KC Loop:  I-35/70 west and I-35/29 north

* St. Louis at the PSB:  Depending upon the source, I-44/55 south, I-55/64/70 east; will definitely be one in a few years when I-44 is extended north over existing I-70.

* Future one in East St. Louis:  I-55/64 west, I-55/70 east

* SE side of Milwaukee:  I-43/894 west, I-43/94 north

There's another twofer in Knoxville (west side): I-75/40 west and I-75/640 north.

Chicago has these:
I-80/294 west and I-80/94 east.
I-80/94 west and I-80/90 east (two different roads).

Milwaukee has:
I-43/894 east and I-894/US-45 north

Can't think of any others around here off hand.
