Title: Built-in U-turns in the Salt Lake Valley
Post by: Rover_0 on February 15, 2011, 01:46:53 AM
Here's the link:

UDOT plans U-turn for "Nightmare" Intersection in Draper (http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=13747814)

It looks like it will be at the I-15/US-89/UT-71 interchange.  Is this the first intersection of its kind?  I don't think that I've ever seen this before, but then again, Utah seems to be one of the first states to have used roundabouts and other traffic oddities.  Thoughts?

Agreed, it's definitely a Michigan Left.  Nice to see them getting used by other DOTs.

But, with the change-resistant nature of a lot of vocal people here, UDOT will be criticized for this (as they have been for installing CFIs, which opponents claim did little to help traffic congestion - well, that's not true). However, the 12300 South/State St intersection really is a nightmare, with the close proximity of a freeway exit to a junction of two major arterials.
