Title: INRIX Freight Traffic Scorecard
Post by: Revive 755 on March 25, 2011, 06:11:48 PM
(This thread is intended for drifting from the AR Diesel Tax thread, and may drift into the fictional highways section)

I don't like how the map neglects four lane expressways and a few freeway routes; it's obvious from it that the NE/IA 2 corridor between I-80 and I-29 handles a lot of freight, and I have to wonder about some of the other ones such as the Avenue of the Saints.

US 34 IL and IA is close to the Avenue too. This INRX leaves out a lot of routes. I would really like to see a national map of Interstate and US routes with total volume and percent truck volume. The only one I have ever seen is from teh National Atlas in 1967. We supposedly have a Bureau of Transportation Statistics

I can attest to the fact that NE/IA 2 handles a lot of freight-always lots of trucks on the road. At least the road can handle it now-I remember what it was like before it was made into a 4-lane expressway. Things will be even better whenever they finally get the south bypass around Lincoln built.

^ I'm curious though how high the truck volume can go before further upgrades to the corridor (besides the dormant SPUI for the eastern NE 2/US 75 intersection) become needed.  The I-29/IA 2 interchange already needs at least a traffic light since trying to go west on IA 2 from NB I-29 can take a while if one gets a semi in front (which seems to be almost every time I've been through that interchange).

It's not unusual to see 5-6 vehicles and at least a couple of them trucks lined up coming off NB I-29 at IA 2 at heavy traffic times. I agree-they really need a traffic light there. I haven't heard any updates recently about starting work to upgrade the US 75 S intersection to an interchange, but that really needs to be done too.
