No idea if any of these will see fruition, but the study recommends some interesting changes for the Buckland Hills mall area, exit 62 off I-84 in Manchester. It's a sprawling retail area with malls, shopping centers, and big box, with the attendant traffic issues. The recommendations include:
- Replace Buckland St HOV exit with an HOV flyover to Pleasant Valley Rd (alongside I-84 WB exit/entrance ramps
- Move I-291 entrance ramp from I-84 WB to exit from C/D road instead. Impact: more direct route from mall to I-291
- Additional WB entrance and EB exit to extension of Redstone Road, which will pass over I-84 east of Buckland St
- Grade separation at Redstone Road and mall access road, with ramps
- SPUI at Buckland St and Pleasant Valley Road / mall access road. This is currently a signalized intersection
- Additional I-84 WB ramp to CT 30 NB. Existing ramp will serve CT 30 SB only. This is east of the mall, exit 63
Much of this is not characteristic of typical CT highway design. It's interesting to see. The full PDF should have a map of the preferred alternative.

And why is this not characteristic of CT highway design? Many of the proposals aren't that outlandish.
It's also interesting to point out that most of these intersections are very wide to begin with and the I-384, I-291 & I-84 interchange is beautiful (drove it last week) and not characteristic of CT Highways. A very well designed interchange!
