There's something like this on a much larger scale along US 127. It began in 1987 and has gradually grown to as far south as Gadsden, AL(beyond the southern end of US 127) and as far north as Hudson, MI.

In Oregon there is a garage sale day for the length of state route 36, which runs 52 miles from Mapleton to just south of Junction City, where 36 meets 99.  Before the war (WWII) this route was US 28.  Even if there are no garage sales, the route itself is quite scenic so should you the reader of this post find themselves in the area, make it a point to take a drive along the Siuslaw River!

In recent years Ohio has had the Lincoln Highway Buy-Way yard sale along US 30 (err, the Lincoln highway).
