Title: IDiOT to close I-57 Cairo Bridge weekend of August 16-18
Post by: kharvey10 on July 30, 2011, 10:09:21 AM
With the US 60/62 Bridge already closed in the Cairo area, IDiOT is really going to piss a bunch of locals and truckers off the weekend of August 16-18 when they shut down I-57 at the Mississippi River for the weekend of August 16-18.

There will be very heavy traffic on 2 lane IL 146 very obviously (it is an approach to the bridge in Cape G), but there will be heavy traffic on I-155, US 51, one of those KY parkways, and I-24 that weekend.  I-57 basically functions as I-55 to the trucking industry when it comes down to the Chicago - New Orleans route (30%+ of AADT on portions of I-57 in downstate IL is truck traffic).  I won't be surprised if I-55 in southeast Missouri gets very heavy traffic as well.  MoDOT better not plan any dirty weekend tricks on 55 for that weekend.

a posted detour was announced, but just take IL 146 back to I-57 as it will be much shorter.
