It is an interesting article.  When I visited Istanbul in 2000, traffic congestion was already so bad that the taxis had been forced to run on bottled gas.

Assholes like Andrew Finkel are why nothing gets built in America anymore. We can't build that bridge there! It destroys the habitat of this endangered weed!

You know what else damages the environment? Traffic congestion.

Ah, Istanbul's population grew by millions (and traffic accordingly) just because they built the bridges, no other reason of course.

What a load of nonsense in that article.

Imagine Los Angeles with only two freeways. That's what Istanbul has.
