32,885 lost their life last year, despite more miles driven overall (almost 3 trillion miles, a 46 billion mile increase over 2009)

One thing that needs to be emphasized is the repeal of 55 mph speed-limit.  I remember no one drove 55 back in the day.  My dad would drive 65-70 and slam on brakes when there was a cop on I-95 in SC.  How dangerous it that to have people slamming on brakes!
