What are some examples of "highway" signs you've seen? Not standard route shields, but commercial signs shaped like highway signs or roads?
Riviera Roadsite Motel in Joplin, MO had a sign shaped like an Interstate shield.
71 Liquors here in Ft Smith has a sign where the "1" has a dashed yellow centerline.
the old 71 Drive-in in Fayetteville, AR had 2 different signs over the years, both with "stylized" US 71 shields.
in Sweden, of all places, I spotted some kind of ad with a perfect '61 spec wide interstate shield that said "USA" instead of the route number... I forget what it said in place of the word "interstate" or the state name. I spotted it on an illuminated billboard while driving on the freeway in the middle of the night, and therefore had no chance to snap a photo.
the 67 Cafe here, off CA-67 in eastern San Diego has, as its logo ... a US-67 marker. Oops.
The Midpoint Cafe in Adrian, TX claims to be the midpoint of Route 66 so they use various Route 66 logo images on their website
http://uglycrustpies.com/about.html
I would have thought "Midpoint Cafe" would be part of their domain name, but instead the domain reflects the style of the cafe's pies.
On US 460 Business in Petersburg there's a "460 Market Place" in the spot of a former 7-Eleven. It has a blue-and-white US 460 shield on its signs.
I forgot one: Route 291 Car Wash in Independence, MO . Their logo is a US 291 shield (even though it's on MO 291)
301 liquors near Ocala FL was actually on OLD 301 now CR200a .. The sign was even black on yellow like the old Florida colored shield. This was 30 years ago... i cant believe that its been so long
Off of Van Ness Avenue/US 101 in San Francisco, is this establishment:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/csampang/5363485894/in/set-72157625842961088
Many years ago, in Daly City on Mission Street/Route 82 (old US 101), there was a "101 Club" near the intersection with West Market Street, but that closed up some time ago. That place didn't use a route shield for its sign.
Noted this one at a convenience store while queuing at a traffic light in Henderson, Kentucky:
In western Greensboro about 10 years ago there was a 421 Self Storage on Market Street, from which US 421 had been removed about 5 years prior. I don't remember a shield, though.
On US 14 just on the east side of Crystal Lake, IL, as you come under the train bridge there's a junkyard that as a pillar with the US 14 shield on it. The shield itself is longer than it is wider, making it quiet obvious when you pass by.
There's some kind of gas station on I-35 in Oklahoma City that uses a perfect 1970 spec I-35 sign in its logo. Further north is an "I-35 Bingo" that includes the letter "I" in its shield.
On OK-76 there's some kind of local business near Blanchard that includes "76" in its name. The 76 is in a diamond. Dunno if that's just a coincidence or if it's supposed to reference OK's pre-1950s state highway shield...

The "Route 36" shield is a little different from the South Korean shield:

The Korean variant has a flat bottom, whereas the "Route 36" shield has a upward curving bottom. It reminds me of some custom Wisconsin shields that had the curve.
There's a furniture store of some description on CSAH 81 near here whose sign incorporates a big 81 in the blue pentagonal county road marker.
Sorry I don't have a pic.
Monty's Club 22 - one of many karaoke bars in Garden Grove. They even have the curved "CALIFORNIA" on their versions of the Miner's Spade. I ought to take a picture during the night time to see the neon signs actually lit up.

I'm sure the signage experts will chime in, but for an advertising sign, that's surprisingly accurate looking.

This pair of TV stations in Medford and Klamath Falls use the Interstate shield (more or less) as their station logo...the Medford station is Channel 5, and Interstate 5 runs through Medford.
There is (was?) a Route 61 Bar and Grill here that uses (used?) an Interstate 61 shield.
There's a restaurant just north of Franklin, TN that just changed its name to "Route 31 Grille" complete with a US 31 shield. (and yes it is on US 31).
I'll try and get a picture as soon as I can.
This sign off route 8 in Akron is a reasonable facsimile of a highway sign. It's a couple years old now, iIrc, and it's getting a little beat up, but still looks better than some of the actual road signs around.

Here (http://www.usends.com/10-19/410/410.html) is the correct link. (You had an extra slash.) Note though, that only one of those (the drive-in on the bottom) is a highway sign in the sense the thread is looking for. That neon US shield looks pretty epic though.
South Carson Street in Carson City, a few blocks south of the State Capitol:
(Edit: Image posted on Photobucket deleted)
I'm not certain if "Old" has always been in the name or if that's been added relatively recently. That stretch of South Carson was the 395 mainline through Carson City until the fall of 2009 when an extension phase of the Carson City Bypass was completed. In any case that name probably does sound a little better than "Red's Business 395 Grill" which would be correct today.

Down in Madisonville, LA, there's a gas station called "Route 22" - their logo is a slight modification of a US shield (the crown is an inverted white on black) - it's at the corner of LA 21/1077 and LA 22. (Oddly enough, that part of LA 22 was signed for a short time as US 190.)

What ever happened to Phillips 66 petroleum? They used the US 66 shield as its logo.
Is there not a US 40 Motel in either Indiana or Ohio that uses or used a US 40 shield?
Phillips 66 stations still exist, but Phillips Petroleum does not exist anymore. It is now part of ConocoPhillips Petroleum. Phillips 66 is now just a brand name. They may not exist in parts of the country anymore due to regional contracts, so their stations were sold off to another company, like BP or Sunoco.

Speaking of BP, I miss their old Interstate-style logo. IIRC, it was discontinued around 2007-08, or was it earlier?
According to Wikipedia, it was 2002. That was also when they phased out Amoco, but I still occasionally see the old logo and the Amoco logo in rural areas.

There's a business in SE KS on US 400 called "400" something. I can't remember if it's a shield or not. I remember it was named 400 just a couple of years after 400 was commissioned.
There's a 54 Veterinary Clinic near Nevada, Mo., which uses a U.S. 54 shield. But in order to make the sign look right, the name has to be out of order: "Veterinary Clinic 54".
There was still a business named "K-12 _____________" on U.S. 166-400 (which was the alignment of the first K-12, obviously) a few years ago. Maybe this finally got renamed?

Found another example close to me - on the Florida Street portion of US 190 in Mandeville, Louisiana, just to the east of Lafayette Street is a mini-storage: Hwy 190 Mini Storage. The "Hwy 190" part is on the sign in a shield shaped like a US highway shield, but unusual in that the color scheme is black on red.

Phillips 66 may be making something of a comeback. Over time Phillips, Conoco, and Tosco (the refining and marketing spin off of Unocal, formerly Union Oil of California) merged, using all three brands in different areas.
ConocoPhillips has announced a split similar to that of Unocal, with a Conoco that is "upstream" (finding and extracting the oil) and a Phillips that is in the refining and marketing business.

Is it possibly KB Homes? Kaufman & Broad.
I see their signs constantly in Lancaster & Palmdale, CA. They're based in LA but once in Detroit so I'm sure they've built houses and had the billboards everywhere.

This is in Raynham on US 44. I have driven past it hundreds of times going back as far as I can remember. There is also a second location for Globe Liquors that not only also uses old MassDOT signs, it also uses a freeway overhead support. It is on US 6 right near MA 79, the sign is on the berm that the rail line uses to get to the bridge to cross US 6.
One of the stores in the Americana Manhasset shopping center had an exit gore sign for exit 36 because it's located about half a mile away from exit 36 of the Long Island Expressway (I-495). Probably was a Phillips 66 until they lost the franchise. I'm sure they thought that no one will know the difference if you just change the top sign.
This has probably is cliche and brought up elsewhere in the thread but US 66 is the undisputed king of non-highway route signage of varying quality. Really you could pick anything outside of L.A. and Chicago, you'll get ton of stuff on image search business or otherwise.
