Over the holidays, I was in southern California and on Christmas Eve, my mother, brother and his wife and daughter and I toured the Queen Mary, then took a drive around Palos Verdes Peninsula. I had heard a few years ago that they were going to be replacing the Gerald Desmond Bridge between Long Beach and Terminal Island with a bigger bridge, but I didn't see any signs of construction. What's the status, if any, on that project?

I'm actually old enough to vaguely remember when there was no Gerald Desmond Bridge--there was just a funny little pontoon drawbridge connecting Terminal Island to Long Beach.
There has been talk on replacing the nearby Schuyler Heim Lift Bridge (Routes 47/103) but so far, nothing has happened:
