Post by: YankeesFan on February 29, 2012, 11:47:55 AM
well, both of the Princetons agreed to merge come Jan. 1st, 2013...anyone know what type of town it is gonna be now? city? township?

for those that don't know, there is Princeton Township and Princeton Borough (where the university is)

I think that there will be a few mergers and consolidations in NJ over the next decade.  NJ has 566 minicuipalities, a lot for such a small state.  The state is encouraging consolidation

Good news!  Now, I would love to see a few other states, such as my native Wisconsin, start doing that!

Quebec did that but with more or less success depending of the areas especially with Montreal.

You're asking 565 soccer mom towns to do this, sadly. A few might (Cherry Hill - Merchantville being an example) but this is a state where "it's fine for everyone but myself" 565x over.

One of the greatest concerns is school districts. If you're in a good one, you don't want a merger with lower-quality students or teachers.

Well we shouldn't be having 612 school districts for 566 municipalities. The utter fact that the NJDOE let it go this far is insane.
