This kind of crap is way too common in suburbia.

Triple, agreed.
This is something that the unit of local government (be it county or municipal) could (and should) prevent, because it is a threat to public safety.

And yet, it's not in a suburb.
Amazingly, by pure coincidence I passed within a block of this intersection this morning.
There's also that part of Queens where there are something like 7 different 60th's in a several-block radius....I don't know how anyone there keeps that straight!!
EDIT::: There's 7 60th's (I was thinking it was 9 for a minute) in this part of Queens.... http://maps.google.com/maps?q=60th+Queens,+ny&hl=en&ll=40.715688,-73.904257&spn=0.004074,0.008819&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=34.861942,72.246094&hq=60th&hnear=Queens,+New+York&t=h&fll=40.715688,-73.904257&fspn=0.004074,0.008819&z=17

Streets run north-south, increasing from west to east. Avenues run east-west, increasing from north to south. Roads and Drives go between Avenues, taking the number of the previous Avenue. Places and Lanes go between Streets, taking the number of the previous Street. It's not that complicated!
(reality is you learn to specify... 31st
Street versus 31st
Avenue, etc., you can't just say "31st" like you could in Manhattan!)

Looks like an early inner suburb of St. Paul with a recent industrial park.

OK, easy for you to say since you're near there 8) ... but it's not often you see that many different streets with the same numbering in 1 neighborhood.

In that vein, what would you do at this intersection? http://g.co/maps/xtkqs (Note: this is accurate)

Street View shows a Cowperthwaite Road sign at the southeast corner. I would guess the name actually changes at the bridge (the township line).
Around here there's a T intersection of Boggy Creek Road and Boggy Creek Road on the county line (so there's some excuse).
Diagrammatic sign run amok!

another like it:

the key to understanding this one is to note that to get to San Luis Rio Colorado, one has to
make a u-turn: the "ramp" which turns into a cloverleaf is none other than the southbound lanes of dual-carriageway route 5.

that's completely straightforward. Burnt Mills Rd keeps its name, while Burnt Mills Rd Burnt Mills Rd happens to change to Cowperthwaite Rd.

No, Cowperthwaite ends there. Google is accurate.

When I was in the field, it was clearly three corners of Burnt Mills. Also see http://www.state.nj.us/transportation/refdata/sldiag/18000641__-.pdf which agrees with my observation.

On the other hand, Somerset County, who maintains the road, calls it Cowperthwaite (http://www.njgin.co.somerset.nj.us/website/SomersetGIS/viewer.htm).
It would sure be nice if aaroads would make their links work better. I would love to see these links, but most of the time, my computer just freezes up when I try to click a link. The other forums I belong to don't have that problem.

Intriguing. Maybe the Cowperthwaite sign is new within the last couple of years - I was there in 2007 or 8.
