Greetings from Riverside County ! :)
I'm a life-long , self-described 'Map Geek' , as well as a visual artist .
My collection of maps is rather small at this point , all Thomas Guides :
- 1969 Los Angeles County
- 1973 Los Angeles / Orange
- 1976 Los Angeles / Orange
- 1979/1980 San Bernardino (that's how it's covered ; both years !)
- 1997 Los Angeles / Orange (with the 1st pressing indicating "666 New Streets!")
My 'Golden Chalice' is any 1980 & earlier Riverside County Thomas Guide . I'd love to see the original routing of I-15 ( present-day I-215 ; prior I-15E ; oldest US395) , as well as CA 71 (Corona Freeway / Collier Avenue / Temescal Canyon / Lake Street) , not to mention the undeveloped Murrieta , north-east of I-15 (ad seq.)
I'm quite looking forward to chatting with my fellow map geeks !
*also , please feel free to scope my Face Book group "Map Nerds , Freeway Freaks..." and join if you're interested *
:sombrero:
Welcome to the group! I only have a couple of old Thomas Guide's, including one of San Diego, but have well over 1,000 fold maps going as far back as 1912 (one from VT).
Welcome. I have a 1953 Rand McNally and a few VDOT maps, but that's about it for now.
Having been stationed at March AFB in 1974-75, I remember the last days of US 395 (current I-215). The only Moreno Valley was the high school as the towns were Edgemont and Sunnymead. So much change! That's typical for SoCal...LOL!
I hope you have some photos from the past that you can share with us here.
Rick
Thanks , Guys !
Other than the photos I've *borrowed* to share on my Face Book page's albums , I don't have anything visual to share (yet ... no scanner , and a 1972 computer X-( ) .
