It's not a Death Race until someone scores points before the race has finished. Or in some cases, before they even start...NJ.com needs to fact-check.
Or if the race results list "Fatal Accident"/"Fatal Crash" as someone's status.

Do you remember the ancient video arcade game called "Death Race?"
In that game (from the late 1970's or early 1980's), the goal was to run-over as many pedestrians (and, if memory serves, animals) as possible.
When they had been killed, the they would become crosses on the screen.

IIRC, the Death Race videogame came out in the late '70s. It was one of the early ones that was still black and white. According to Wikipedia, it came out in 1976, shortly after the movie. And used TTL circuitry instead of a ROM based program.

It was referencing Death Race 2000, a 1975 film starring David Carradine and also featuring a pre-Rocky Sylvester Stallone.

Ace, that's absolutely correct. I played it at least a few times in my youth.

I did not know it was TTL instead of burned into ROM, but it makes sense, given year it was built.

Curiously, I have never seen the film.
NBC News: NJ state troopers may face charges in 'Death Race 2012' escort (http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/07/26/12970216-nj-state-troopers-may-face-charges-in-death-race-2012-escort)
QuoteTwo New Jersey State Police officers who escorted a high-speed caravan of luxury cars, including one driven by former New York Giants star Brandon Jacobs, to Atlantic City will likely be charged criminally Friday, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
QuoteSgt. 1st Class Nassir Nassry, a 25-year-veteran of the State Police, and trooper Joseph Ventrella, 28, were suspended in April without pay after the incident in March. Nassry allegedly ordered Ventrella to help with the caravan.
In today's (7/30/12) paper - the Trooper turned himself in:
