Are there any Interstate Shields with the state name Ohio or Michigan remaining?
I recall some on on the Ohio Turnpike back in 2006, but have not seen any since.
Michigan 94s are up on the frontage roads, relatively new ones though. There are older 75s and 94s around town if you poke into the city a bit. I've heard of one left in Ohio that I have to get to... hopefully this year
One lone entry for Interstate 496 on a city street and the aforementioned ones for 75, 94 and 96 in Detroit (and Livonia for I-96 as well). Also a I-275 MI was still kicking in 2009.
A handful for I-75 in Lockwood er Lockland, and a lone holdout for I-70, otherwise Ohio is devoid of state named shields to my knowledge.
Ohio is as Alex mentioned.
Michigan: there are a lot of Detroit-installed state-named green signs. (there are even some MICHIGAN US 10 installations left!)
for independent cutout signs, I believe the only ones in Detroit are I-75s.
in Flint, I know of a single 69 and a single 475. I can't remember offhand where they are, but I remember them being close to freeway entrances on major arterials, so they shouldn't be too tough to find. traffic in Flint these days is Pyongyang-like, so it's not too horrible a quest.
Where exactly is Lockwood Ohio? Google Maps shows it to over by Cleveland, which is too far North and East to be right.

just north of Cincy where the carriageways of 75 split. all the state-named shields are between the carriageways in that little neighborhood. the neighborhood is called Lockland, which explains the problems with the search.

I believe there may be five. at least, I feel like I photographed one which Alex did not show me a picture of back when we both were hunting for them several weeks apart.

What I get for posting in when uber tired, its Lockland. :coffee:

Wish I knew about those Flint signs, would have liked to have seen them last November.
There was one I-75 MI (//www.aaroads.com/shields/show.php?image=MI19790757) left in Monroe in 2009. The other was replaced when we visited.

I told you about them!
in February 2010.
what; don't give me that look.
Jim Lindsay and I found some state-named 75s in a construction zone in the Detroit suburbs but those might be gone. we could not find a single 375. believe me, we looked. not even a Detroit city job green sign.
there are two Business Spur 96 shields that we found as well. those are interesting to check out, because I believe Business Spur 96 has not been an active route since the 60s.

I haven't been off the interstate in that area. I might have to get up that way next time I have a day free and want to do some driving.
Dangit! Why couldn't I find them when I actually lived in Cincinnati?
Thanks for the tip!

I found another Indiana I-64 sign but it's in very, very poor shape.
You mean separate shields, not ones on larger signs, right? Detroit has plentiful state-name shields on LGS which look fairly recent. I was last there in late December and didn't get around enough to look for any of the actual standalone shields I saw on the previous trip though.

It's been 4.5 years now since I was out on M-39 where there was a "MICH" state-abbrev I-94 shield on a BGS...I wonder if that is still there. I think my picture of it is on Steve's M-39 page.
I could swear I saw at least one state-name Ohio shield on the Turnpike somewhere between I-77 and I-75 back in December (and several times before that), but I wasn't on top of it enough to get a picture or note the location.
Correct - I'm looking for the stand alone button signs.

some new, some old. the MICHIGAN US 10 signs actually do date back to before 1986.

yes, as of Feb 2010.

I do not remember where there were state-named shields on the turnpike last - I just know that the Turnpike authority used the state name in the 80s and 90s. there was an 80/90 pair eastbound at the third or fourth exit (west of Toledo, still) in June 2006, but in April 2007 when I looked between Cleveland and Toledo I did not see any westbound, nor any eastbound but I was not looking as hard in that direction.
This map shows most of the goodies in Lockland: http://goo.gl/maps/n5pq
I was hoping that the signs in this photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rawmustard/4199663427) would still be up, but when I drove by yesterday afternoon they were gone. And as far as I know, there aren't any other trailblazers in the downtown area even on the heavier trafficked streets.
This map is awesome! Thank you for putting it together!

Technically this is in Oakland County, not Detroit proper, but...

Just back from Detroit. The one stand alone cut out with the orange Michigan 94 still exisits. On 8 mile at I-75. Plenty LGS near downtown. The "Mich" 94 on M39 is gone, was hoping for that one.

awesome! find anything else good? there should be at least one MICHIGAN US 10 cutout left, near the old site of Tiger Stadium.
that should give you the location, if you're familiar with the old stadium. if not, it's Trumbull St. southbound at the Fisher Freeway westbound frontage road.
I didnt get over there. I got out of meetings about 5 and still had to drive back to Chicago, so I only went to find the MICH 94. I found the cut out Michigan 94 the day before. Wish I would have known about the one you posted.
There is also a "TO I-70" sign on southbound OH 317 (Hamilton Road) just past US 40 (East Main Street) that has an OHIO banner.
