We have used US 301 and FL 200/A1A as a wide bypass of the Jacksonville area many times over the last 8-10 years to get between I-95 in Yulee and US 301 in Baldwin. We have seen the progress of the widening of this route, which was only north/east of Callahan before the last year. A ride through earlier this week showed lots of progress on the portion between Baldwin and Callahan. What was a fairly narrow, 2-lane route with dense forest right up to the shoulders has gotten a whole new look. It appears that enough space has been cleared and graded on both sides of the existing road for new 2-lane roads, almost all the way along the segment. While I always enjoyed this part of the ride, it already felt a lot safer knowing we would have a much better chance of seeing wildlife before it would enter the roadway.
I should have grabbed more pictures. Here's the one I did take:

This was already normally a pretty quick ride, but it will be an even more attractive alternative to I-95/I-295/I-10 once the possibility of getting behind a slow truck or Sunday driver is lessened by the expansion to 4 lanes.
Is the proposed bypass of Baldwin part of the project?
