An F250 pickup truck with 23 people crashed on US-59 in Goliad County, Texas and 11 were killed in the crash with the remaining 12 injured.
23 people in an F250. That's way excess the number of people a pickup of it's size would normally carry. I guess 5-or-6 passengers were in the cab while the rest of the people were in the truck bed.

This was on US 59 (future I-69) between Victoria and Corpus Christi, TX.
It will be interesting to see what CIS will be saying about the people in that truck, too (assuming that the press corps of today will even be bothering to dig into that detail). 23 people on that ranch-sized pickemuptruck? That bed must have been PACKED!
:-o
(BTW, the press is now saying 13 fatals.)

what CIS will be saying
if they have any good sense, they will sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up, and perhaps if we have any luck as a functioning society, they will fuck the fuck off and never be heard from again.

My daily driver is a 2001 F250. Unless those people were
very skinny, just the weight of that many people overloaded the truck (which probably had a maximum gross vehicle weight of about 8600 pounds), though perhaps not all that badly.
Still, most of the people
had to be in the bed of the truck, and in a severe crash, the bed of a pickup truck is a death zone.
The death toll from the wreck is now 14. According to this article, the passengers in the truck were non-US citizens from Mexico and Central American nations.

That was the first thing I thought of when I read that it was that many people in the truck (being that they were undocumented immigrants).
I knew when my local newspaper posted this, 23 people in a truck, someone has to be illegal. Especially in Texas, towards the south.
It's sad, but apparently the driver was among the survivors.. The other ones, dead or injured, aren't the least bit of his concern, except for the $$$. Sad word.

I would hope that the driver might be due for an extended stay in either the Texas or federal prison system if he is convicted of either vehicular homicide (presumably in a Texas court) or human smuggling (in federal court) or - even better - both.

MY words, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed yesterday....

nah, I'm just sick of the US being turned into a police state. the border patrol has no business being anywhere but at the border.
prosecute the event for what it was: a traffic accident. reckless driving charges on the driver.
Racism removed. It's one thing to complain about illegal immigrants, another to target Spanish speakers. Let's keep the discussion civil.
¡Ay, dios mÃo! ¿Qué ocurrió? :sombrero:
