The shortest us highway is us 730, the shortest interstate i think is i-380 in bristol, virginia. But what is the shortest state highway in the us (and how short is it distance wise)? feel free to correct me if i'm wrong about the first two statements i made if i was wrong about those, and to mention any other incredibly short highway.
My driveway is shorter than yours.

Tennessee 300 is only about a mile and a half. It's entirely inside the city of Memphis.
The original VA 353 was 78 feet.
Indiana 520 west of Michigan City. Only used to connect U.S. 12 and 20 outside Michigan City limits, it runs for all of about 1000 feet.
Indiana 249, about 15 miles further west, would take the cake if it didn't curve east for about a mile (parallel to U.S. 12) to serve the steel mills.

Q: What is the shortest numbered highway?
A: KY-2920 near Lawrenceburg in Anderson County is recorded as 0.007 mile (equal to 36.96 feet - see http://www.kytc.state.ky.us/planning/sprslistings/sprs.htm ). VT-26 in Lemington, formerly touted as the shortest, is officially recorded as a rounded 0.01 mile, equal to 52.8 feet (photos at http://www.roadgeek.org/waste_of_film/page5.html ), but is actually 69 feet long, making it longer than both KY-2920 and KY-2250 in Louisville (0.009 mile, equivalent to 47.52 feet).
I crabwalked the length of VT 26.
IIRR, the shortest numbered road in TX is http://www.dot.state.tx.us/tpp/hwy/sl/sl0168.htm , Loop 168 in Tenaha. It goes for 1 block, a total of .074 mile.

The shortest signed highway in Michigan is M-212 at 0.732 miles while I-375 is listed as the shortest signed Interstate at 1.062 miles. I believe I-110 in Texas may be signed now, but I-878 is 0.70 miles. The shortest unsigned highway in Michigan, excluding any orphaned pieces of rerouted highways is Business Spur I-375 at 0.167 miles.

Essentially a glorified driveway.
The shortest posted route of any kind I've ever seen in Virginia is F338 on VA 30 at I-95. The distance from the VA 30 shoulder edge to the END Maintenance sign is something like 20 ft. GSV seems to show it is no longer posted but I am 99% sure I have a picture of an F338 sign somewhere at home.

The shortest signed Virginia primary route I'm aware of is the 78 ft of original VA 353 mentioned in an earlier post.

Whatever the Texas part of Arkansas 108 off of U.S. 59/71 is north of Texarkana. Maybe 50 feet.
Shortest I can think of in Maryland that's not a dead-end or spur of a relocated state highway is Md. 911, part of First Street in the City of Rockville, Montgomery County.
According to the 2011 Highway Location Reference, it is 0.21 miles long, 4 lanes wide and had a 2011 AADT of just over 25,000.
I think Florida's SR 970 is the shortest in its state; it's just a few collector/distributor ramps from US1 to I-95 in downtown Miami. There's about 5 more state roads that are about one mile or less.
Interstates 175 and 375 in Tampa are just over a mile each.

Oklahoma's shortest is OK-40A, at 0.35 miles. It is a spur into Carney from...no, not OK-40. There is no OK-40...it was deleted and replaced by US-177, and 40A was never renumbered to OK-177A. (There is also an orphaned 18A that was never renumbered to be a spur of 177, either.)

265 may be shorter, but Wikipedia is contradictory. it claims .550 miles for 153, and then both .527 and .7 for 265.

Not my problem, mang. :P
Maybe we could set up a wiki here with just one editable page to update the FAQ? On second thought, everyone would add their favorite examples and it would turn to shit.

I have my own site FAQ. I
could take over the roadfan FAQ but I'd need buy-in from Marc and Sandor on that...

Roadfan is working just fine. Not sure where the link rot that Formulanone spoke of is located.

Pretty likely. Could be worth it to have a moderated FAQ -- ie, the site staff adds in the entries.
Sorry, but the roadgeek.org site doesn't work on my laptop nor phone, and the KY website shows a Page Not Found error. Don't get me wrong, I recall the former site was correct, but I also don't have the time to make this stuff up.
Having an on-site FAQ would be a great idea, being that this essentially the foremost collection of authority and expertise on road-going subjects on the web.
There's also TX SH 165 "Lou Kemp Highway." Accesses the TX State Cemetery in downtown Austin. Half-mile long.
LA 805 (signed route), Athens, LA: .4 mile long.

Ah, yes. The only TX state road that doesn't connect to another numbered road. Just orphaned and floating out there by itself. Oh, and unsigned, too.
I can think of two in Virginia primary system highways that are very short, oddly, both cross I-66
One runs under I-66 in Arlington County (with no access) - Va. 124 - Spout Run Parkway, 0.17 miles; and
One has an interchange with I-66 (Exit 13) in unincorporated Linden, Warren County - Va. 79 - Apple Mountain Road, 0.23 miles.
Both of these roads are longer than the Virginia primary system segment - Spout Run Parkway continues toward the Potomac River (it ends in a partial interchange at the George Washington Memorial Parkway) under federal government maintenance, and Apple Mountain Road becomes a private road north of I-66.
^ VA 162 is slightly shorter than those, at 0.16 miles, but it was longer until 1994.

I don't know if Y routes count or not, but they're still in the primary system, so...
VA 54Y is 0.03 miles long.

Driven by there many times on U.S. 301/Va. 2 (never on Va. 54), but have not noticed that there was a separate Va. 54Y at that intersection.
VA 54Y is not posted. It is the leg to the right in the picture. It even intersects a SR but no 54Y posting is there either.

The original VA 376 was 0.10 miles, on Main St in Berryville between today's US 340 and SR 616.
The first VA 289 was 0.13 miles
The shortest primary route currently posted in Virginia is VA 300Y, at 0.04 miles.
The shortest "regular" primary route that is posted is VA 349 at 0.12 miles.
VA 335, 341, 342, 374, 389, 391 all check in at under 0.20 miles and are all posted.
VA 399 is 0.11 miles but unposted
