Title: Three straight interchanges with Interstates
Post by: Alex on July 28, 2012, 05:54:05 PM
Interstate 95 northbound in Maryland sees three straight interchanges with Interstates: Exit 46 with I-895, Exit 47 with I-195 and Exit 49 with I-695. Are their other instances along the Interstate system where this occurs?

I-95 Southbound in the Bronx.

I-295 via I-695 to the Throgs Neck Bridge, followed by I-278 into the RFK Bridge. Then I-678 to the Whitestone Bridge.

Three in a row as the East Tremont Avenue exit lies BEFORE I-695.

If it counts, the New York Thruway going through Albany and Schenectady have this occurrence. Exit 23 for I-787, exit 24 where I-87 leaves and I-90 joins, exit 25 for I-890, exit 25A for I-88, and exit 26 for the other end of I-890.

I only count two here: the Throgs Neck Bridge interchange (I-695) and the Bruckner Interchange (I-278/I-678).

Speaking of the Thruway, you also have Exits 45-47 (I-490, I-390, I-490 again).

If NYSDOT ever gets I-86 completed you will have  NY Thruway Exits 15- 17 with three in a row.

Not quite; you have Exit 15A (NY 17/59) in there throwing off the sequence.

How about I-80/I-90 and the Ohio Turnpike in Toledo ?  I think Exits 4, 4A and 5 serve I-475, I-75 and I-280 respectively.

Not quite. Old exit 4 (current exit 59) is for U.S. 20, which - as indicated by the signage - serves as a connector to Interstate 475. The Turnpike and I-475 have no direct connection.

Near-miss department: If not for Zorn Avenue, I-71 in Louisville would qualify. The two bypasses  :-D (I-265 and I-264) and I-64/I-65.

Speaking of the Ohio Turnpike, if ODOT ever renames the now-interstate standard SR-8 an I-x77 or I-x76, you would have 4-in-a-row:  Running west to east, you'd have I-71, I-77, I-x7x, and I-480 (eastern terminus).  Come to think of it, you would have 4-duplexes in a row as well with US-42, SR-21, SR-8 and SR-14, respectively.

I believe Colorado can make a formal entry here with the southbound 25 hitting I-270/US 36, then I-76, then I-70.  70th and 48th Avenues are both very partial interchanges (cannot make movement from SB I-25 to 70th), and the 48th Avenue offramp, I believe, comes off the connector to WB I-70 from SB I-25.

Actually both I-278 and I-678 have two separate exits, though the whole spaghetti bowl is called the Bruckener Interchange its still two different ramps with three in a row,

Quite true, three different consecutive exits, but as the topic line said "interchanges" I was counting the whole Bruckner Interchange as one.
