Title: I-95/MA 128 Question with Towers
Post by: KEVIN_224 on August 19, 2012, 01:28:59 PM
I saw this series of towers while riding along I-95/MA Route 128 North in the Waltham, MA area, near the exit for US Route 20. Any idea as to who they may be used by?

A quick Google Maps lookup listed a company called "Waltham Cell".  There are cell phone relay hardware installations on the lower parts of the 2 middle towers, and 1 on the right-side tower.  The one on the left could have several, but it's hard to tell at the angle pictured and from the structuring of the tower itself.  I tried an aerial look, but there doesn't seem to be a clear way to get to those towers from a street or road.  Otherwise, I see nothing that looks like TV antennas or FM installations, and the remaining add-ons have a microwave-drum look to them.  Not that I've ever been to the area before, but it appears that this point is a very tall (if not the tallest?) point in the immediate area.  It could be that "Waltham Cell" needs something like this for it's telecommunications activity for the area, and also other clients who use microwaves (or other tower-necessary technology) could be leasing space on one of the towers.  Many times Google Maps has a pinpoint label for towers and their user(s) but these towers aren't labeled as such on the aerial pic.

I know it's not TV towers, as the TV towers in the Needham area would be south of I-90/Massachusetts Turnpike. I was heading north and this was close to the US Route 20 exit in the Waltham area.
