Down is coming to Cain's in Tulsa on September 19 and the Smashing Pumpkins are coming on September 28. I'm sure you know who the Pumpkins are, but if you don't know Down they're Phil Anselmo from Pantera and Pepper Keenan from Corrosion of Conformity. Cain's is a small ballroom with a capacity of less than 1500. I saw the Pumpkins in 2010 at Cain's but I have never seen Down and I haven't been to a metal show in a while so I'm pretty stoked.
The Pumpkins' set list on this tour starts off with Oceania in its entirety, with a few extra songs after that. Cherub Rock, Ava Adore, 1979, etc...some of the classics. As always, their set list is never quite the same between two shows, though. I wanted to see The Hives (a Swedish garage-punk band) when they came to DC in June, but I was unable to go.
I read that the Pumpkins won't be playing all of Oceania at this show. It's not a regular show, it's a "warm up" for the tour and they are supposedly going to just play a few Oceania songs.
They ended up playing all of Oceania. The setlist was:
Quasar
Panopticon
The Celestials
Violet Rays
My Love Is Winter
One Diamond, One Heart
Pinwheels
Oceania
Pale Horse
The Chimera
Glissandra
Inkless
Wildflower
Classic songs
Space Oddity
(David Bowie cover)
X.Y.U.
Disarm
Tonite Reprise
Tonight, Tonight
Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Mayonaise
Zero
Ava Adore
Black Diamond
What album was Black Diamond on? Or was that one of their hundreds of miscellaneous/unreleased songs?
I can't help but be reminded of this exchange any time I hear anything to do with Smashing Pumpkins:
Billy Corgan: "Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins."
Homer: "Homer Simpson, smiling politely. "
Black Diamond is a Kiss cover. The drummer, Mike Byrne, sang it.
When you said "Down", my first thought was "hmm, that's an odd shorthand for System of a Down".
I didn't realize that SP was a thing again.
