Just a silly diversion that has served as sheep for my counting:
US 15 ends at US 17 Alternate
US 17 Alternate ends at US 17
US 17 ends at US 522 (among others)
US 522 ends at US 15 (and US 11)
US 15 ends at US 17 Alternate...
There's also an order-two loop of US 64 and US 158. Any more?
CA-138 and CA-18 is a pretty perverse order-two example.
for an order-one example: in Norway, route 820 ends at itself. these signs show all the roads as being "to 820", but it is actually route 820 the whole way around.
ME-3 and ME-102.
I had been hoping for ME-3 ending at itself, but alas it is not quite that interesting.
MN 27 and MN 28 end at each other, half a state apart from each other.
PQ 132 in the Gaspe Pennisula.
I know that I-37 and US 181 both have terminuses at each other in Corpus Christi, TX. Both routes serve the same purpose and US 181 loops back around to end again at I-37.
It should be mentioned that any road forming a complete loop, like I-465 in the Indy area, has no ends. Sure, there is a milepost zero, but that's an arbitrary spot rather than a real end.
OK, there are a bunch of 1 and 2. Any longer than 4?
I-95 ends at US 1. US 1... okay
I-80 ends at I-95... nope
I-80 ends at US 101. US 101 ends at I-5. I-5 ends at...
US 101 ends at I-10. I-10 ends at I-95...
Dude, this is tough.

I'm still trying to find a ridiculously long one that uses Wyoming 230 ending at Wyoming 130, and then I find these insanely long loops and end up with loops within loops- seems to be working as a strategy

I had been trying to think of some for Virginia that were more than 2, but I keep getting stuck at US 60.
is there one involving only interstate highways? I cannot think of one offhand.
also, does US-101 really end at CA-60? I thought it went just a bit further to end at I-5.

KS-161
*twitches*
what's so unusual about it? looks to me, on the map, like it runs from US-36 near Bird City north to Nebraska, where it turns into NE-61.
I know it's K-161. I was using uniform abbreviations for clarity.

I would have done the same thing in a long list of highways. FWIW, K-161 takes me back to high school track meets...and not in a pleasant way.
How about we just hand this thread over to corco.

Probably not, since (almost?) every interstate endpoint will eventually get you to I-5, I-95, a US or state highway, an infinite loop (69 ending at 465), or an international border.
The only interstate one I can think of is a two: I-64 ends at I-664, I-664 ends at I-64.
The only Interstates I came up with are beltways (64-664, 255-270, 494-694, etc.). As well as 95-295 for now.
BUT there will be 76-295-195-276 in the future.

Once the US 41 interstate conversion is complete, it is likely that the new interstate (probably I-41) and I-43 will end each other by Green Bay.

I-10 and I-90 are other "problems" that end the fun prematurely.
I-12 I-59 I-24 I-57 I-55... sooooo close but it goes past I-12 down to 10. That's the best I can do with 2di's.
US 41 ends a lot of the 'fun' here in Wisconsin, too.

Three involving NY 89 (technically, they fall apart at NY 89/NY 104, but I figured I'd post them anyway):
1:
- The southern end of NY 89 is at NY 13/34/96 in Ithaca
- NY 13 ends at NY 3 about two miles west of Pulaski
- NY 3 ends at NY 104 in Hannibal
- The northern end of NY 89 is at NY 104 just outside of Wolcott
2 (variation of #1):
- The southern end of NY 89 is at NY 13/34/96 in Ithaca
- NY 13 ends at NY 3 about two miles west of Pulaski
- NY 104B ends at NY 3
- The other end of NY 104B is at NY 104
- Both ends of NY 104A are along NY 104 before the next step (but that might be considered cheating)
- The northern end of NY 89 is at NY 104 just outside of Wolcott
3:
- The southern end of NY 89 is at NY 13/34/96 in Ithaca
- NY 34 ends at NY 104 south of Hannibal*
- The northern end of NY 89 is at NY 104 just outside of Wolcott
*Before NY 34 was extended to NY 104, this step would be NY 370 to NY 104
