Title: vintage street scenes of New City 1980 and 1988
Post by: Stephane Dumas on November 05, 2012, 08:36:26 PM
I spotted these vintage clips showing some views of New York City from 1980 and 1988. A world without SUV and when taxicabs aren't Prius. ;)

Having grown up in the area, I love looking on Youtube at collections of commercials from NYC in the 70's-80's

I just like seeing that sort of grittier version of NY that people tend to forget existed not so long ago.  Plus, you get the benefit of seeing all the older vehicles, and all the roadgeek-related stuff like old road signs and traffic lights.

Love the shot of Evita running on Broadway in 1980...as it is again today.

In the 1980 video, most of the taxicabs were still the old-school Checker Marathons (production continued through the 1982 model year).
